Light and dark mode
How to switch MyTroop between light and dark, and why the choice is remembered on one device rather than on your account.
MyTroop can be shown light or dark. It's a personal choice — it doesn't affect what anyone else in your troop sees, and it isn't a troop setting an admin controls.
Changing it
- Tap the person icon in the top bar, next to the ?. That opens your profile.
- Scroll to Appearance.
- Pick one:
- Light — always light, whatever your phone or computer is set to.
- Dark — always dark, the same way.
- Match my device — follows your phone or computer's own light/dark setting. This is the default.
The change happens as soon as you pick it. There's nothing to save — the Save button further up that page belongs to your name, phone and address, not to this.
Why it didn't follow me to my other device
The choice is stored in the browser you made it in, not on your account. So setting dark on your laptop won't change your phone, and clearing your browser data resets it to Match my device.
That's deliberate. Storing it on your account would mean the site had to look up your preference before it could draw anything, which shows a flash of the wrong colour on every page — and it wouldn't work at all on your troop's public pages, where you may not be signed in.
If you only ever see light
Two things to check:
- Are you on "Match my device"? If so, the site is following your phone or computer. On Android and iOS that's in Display settings; on a laptop it's in system appearance settings. Set the device to dark, or pick Dark in MyTroop directly.
- Are you signed in? The setting lives on your profile page, so you need an account to change it. Signed out — on a troop's public pages, for instance — MyTroop follows your device.
